Mary Magdalene
This is a classic awakening movie highlighting the common obstacles faced on the awakening journey. As Mary begins to listen and honor the inner voice of guidance, she faces the seeming judgments, rejection, and disapproval of her family as she takes her first shaky steps on the uncompromising path to true freedom.
Fortunately, Mary has a deep devotion and readiness to hear the call. Shortly after her brother almost drowns her in an attempt to rid her of a perceived “devil” within, Mary hears the voice of Jesus. From this moment on, she never falters in taking her steps with Jesus as her guide. Though she seems to need this mighty companion beside her in physical form for a time, Mary witnesses Jesus’ resurrection after his crucifixion; symbolic of her own resurrected mind.
On her journey, Mary continues to encounter doubt and hostility, even from Jesus’ disciples, who view her as less than them. As Jesus profoundly demonstrates, Mary simply overlooks the error of their ways and reaches out in love to all her brothers. The disciples are waiting for the new world to appear as a physical phenomenon, but Mary knows in her heart that the second coming cannot be seen with the body’s eyes; the Kingdom of Heaven is within and it’s ready to invite the stranger in!
